Lead Product Designer

We're looking for a passionate and talented designer to join our small but growing product team. We've been working with a great branding team to help craft the initial identity and vision for the product and now want to bring someone internally to help extend, improve, and push this as we continue to iterate.

Our platform is the web and we want to find someone who can think and work side-by-side with engineers to build beautiful and functional features and interactions. This role will allow you to flex your design, user experience, front-end development, and product management skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and testing new features: We have a long and constantly growing list of features we want to build. You would help take these from idea to implementation.
  • Working directly with engineers: We are building a unified product team that encompasses design and development. You will work along-side the implementers to make sure that we're pushing the best version of the product.
  • Shaping and maintaining the brand and style guide: You will be the shepherd of our applications brand and style.
  • Testing and improving your designs: We are working directly with our users to get critical feedback and turn it into a better product.

You:

  • Love the web: You love working in the sometimes difficult but always powerful platform of the browser. You understand the limitations but harness them to create awesome interactions.
  • Care about mobile experiences: You know that much of the web is experiences through mobile devices these days and have real world knowledge of using responsive design.
  • Have experience with or are interested in indoor agriculture: Our team is from a very diverse set of backgrounds but we are unified by our mission. Experience or knowledge of indoor farming is a plus, but interest and willingness to learn is the only requirement.
  • Enjoy doing it live: You enjoy working directly in HTML/CSS and being able to tweak live designs. You can bust out a photoshop design, but would rather work directly with an engineer to do it live.
  • Passionate about customers: You care about the users of the products you build and appreciate the opportunity to integrate their comments into your designs.

Frontend Developer

We are looking for talented and experienced developers to help us launch and improve our product. Our team has existing strong backend experience and we want to bring on a frontend developer who can work with a product designer and developer to create superlative interactive experiences.

Our goal is to build and maintain a small agile team that can build and deploy quality code and features directly to our customers. Every member of the team will be integral in improving the product and directly growing our business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and maintaining new features: We have an existing plan of lots of new functionality we want to build, and this grows every day. You will be responsible for working with the rest of the development team to build the HTML, CSS and contribute to the JS of the features.
  • Working directly with product designers: We are building a unified product team that encompasses design and development. You will work along-side designers to make sure things look as good as they work.
  • Working with and improving the existing codebase: We are off to a great start and want to keep the code as beautiful, organized, and well structured as we believe the application is.

You:

  • Care about your code: You have an opinion about what beautiful code is and you're constantly working to deliver it.
  • Know frameworks, but also know how to work outside of them: You have some experience with Rails and Javascript frameworks, but you can also build applications without their support and scaffolds.
  • Understand the mobile web: You are up to date with all the latest advances in responsive design and implementation and know what mobile browsers are and aren’t capable of.
  • Work best in small agile teams: You find you're the most motivated when you can work with a tight group of people who are all working to the same goal.

Full Stack Developer

We are looking for talented and experienced developers to help us launch and improve our product. We understand that Full-stack can be ambiguous: If there is a spectrum of comfort level and extreme backend is at one end, and extreme frontend is at the other, we're hoping to find someone towards the middle. As were still a small team, everyone we add on the engineering side needs to be able to work on multiple parts of the application and feel comfortable doing so. If your expertise leans more towards backend or frontend, that is great, we just want you to be willing to step into both sides.

You will be responsible for turning these into functional products and continuing to improve them.
  • Working directly with product designers: We are building a unified product team that encompasses design and development. You will work along-side designers to make sure things look as good as they work.
  • Helping to set the technical vision of the product: Being part of a small and early-stage team means being able to help lay the groundwork of how the team builds.
  • Integrating with third-party systems: One of our largest projects is building integrations with a slew of physical and internet-based farm monitoring systems. You will have to work with and around the good and bad parts of these systems, connecting them to our own application.

You:

  • Care about your code: You have an opinion about what beautiful code is and you're constantly working to deliver it.
  • Enjoy learning and teaching: You are always looking for opportunities to learn, programming or otherwise, and are willing to share and take the time to help your team-mates.
  • Value your product over tools: Your first priority is shipping a great product and you know that the tools you use are a means to an end, not the core value.
  • Know frameworks, but also know how to work outside of them: You have experience with Ruby on Rails and Javascript frameworks, but you can also build applications without their support and scaffolds.
  • Work best in small agile teams: You find you're the most motivated when you can work with a tight group of people who are all working to the same goal.
